Alphonso Davies failed in his quest to get Lionel Messi’s shirt following Bayern Munich’s 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona to knock the Spanish giants out of the Champions League.

The Catalan giants were thoroughly humiliated 8-2 by a ‘well-oiled German machine’ in the form of Bayern Munich as they succumbed to yet another heart-breaking exit from the Champions League for the third successive season.

Bayern were ruthless for the entire 90 minutes scoring four times in either half as Messi and co looked on with so much confusion as they crashed out of the tournament as Setien could only watch haplessly from the bench.

Alphonso Davies who earlier claimed that Messi was his childhood hero had the task of stopping the multiple Ballon d’Or winner – and he did in style with Barcelona badly battered.

Speaking with BT Sport, the youngster disclosed that he attempted to request for the legend’s shirt as souvenir, but he feels the Argentine was upset at the defeat.

"I asked for it but I think he was a little bit upset," the left-back told BT Sport. "It's OK, next time hopefully."

Recall that barely 24 hours to the game, Davies had hinted that it would be a different ball game facing the Barcelona superstar.

“Growing up, I used to watch him all the time and now I'm defending against him; it's going to be a whole different ball game," Davies told UEFA about the prospect of facing Messi.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi is visibly furious with the Barcelona management and latest reports have it that the Argentine has threatened to quit the Catalan club in 2021.
