Silverchair guitarist Chris Joannous cool $1 million profit from Newcastle home sale
Chris Joannou, who was the bassist for the band Silverchair, has sold his family home in Carrington in the Newcastle district for $1.65 million.
He’s off to Coffs Harbour to be closer to his wife Karissa’s family.
The property sold through Harcourts Newcastle agent Joel Soldado who had $1.5 million plus hopes.
It has been their three-bedroom home since paying $671,000 in 2014.
Boasting leadlight windows, ornate ceilings and pine floors, the 1910 home is set on 508 sqm.
It was once owned by the Newcastle Port Authority.
The home was renovated shortly before its 2014 sale, and comes with approval for a pool and accommodation above its double garage.

It was 1994 when the trio of teenage Novocastrians, known then as the Innocent Criminals won a competition on SBS TV’s Nomad program by sending in their melodic grunge demo tape.
Silverchair’s singer Daniel Johns kicked off his property purchases with a $360,000 Merewether house in 1996.

Drummer Ben Gillies also bought in Merewether, paying $650,000 in 1997, while Joannou, who completed his HSC in 1997, bought for $370,000 in 1996 in Merewether which was sold in 2000 for $500,000 when he bought at Terrigal for $617,000.
Joannou will still visit Newcastle, where he oversees venues including the Criterion Hotel and Flotilla.
